A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface from that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has achieved 21 championships at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a title is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, comprising in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an better serve.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued four early chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
